END OF SUMMER INSPIRATION

This weekend I enjoyed the entire New England coast.  On Friday, I had an amazing waterside dinner at Pier 6 in Charlestown.  Saturday morning I was up early for a trip to Rhode Island, then returned to Massachusetts for a day at  Crane's Beach.  And as anyone, who has ever been to the north shore of Massachusetts knows, no trip is complete without a bite from Woodman's.  Warm sunny days, good friends, and the beach made this weekend a great end to the summer.  

This time of year always makes me think of drift wood and washed up beach finds.  White washed from a long summer out in the sun, seashells take on a muted natural look.  As someone who loves neutral white tones, I find sun bleached finds the most inspiring.  I love a great vibrant seashell, but the variation in color found in a sun bleached shell is an unexpected display.  Here is some end of summer sun bleached inspiration.

WHITE ON WHITE: OBSESSION

I love white on white during any time of the year, but especially in the summertime.  Summertime favorites include breezy white interiors, cool white fashion, and white sun bleached  treasures from the seaside.  White has always been a favorite color of mine.  Maybe this is because there are so many different kinds of white.  Cool whites with a hint of blue to warm creamy whites, each variation leading to a different effect.   

One of my favorite sources of inspiration for summer white is the seaside.  Throughout my apartment and at my parent's house, I have numerous collections of seashells, stones, and other treasures.  Some of  my collections include beautifully colored shells, but my favorites tend to be all white.  Sun bleached oyster shells fill a canister at my bedside, a white rock collection serves as the perfect bookend on my bookshelf, and three white sea urchins sit on a shelf.  I just can't seem to get enough of white on white!

NANTUCKET: COLOR, TEXTURE, PATTERN

During college, I studied abroad in Italy; at this time I discovered that some of my most inspirational photographs were of a specific detail or texture.  An overall photo of a structure is a great memory and reference, but most do not credit the smallest details.  When I was on Nantucket, I tried to take overall photos, as well as detail shots showing texture, pattern, and color. These are great inspiration for projects and color schemes.  Here are a few of my favorites.
