SHIP SHAPE: NANTUCKET LOOMS

During a recent trip to Nantucket, I visited Nantucket Looms.  Upon entering this seaside shop you are drawn in by a magnificent display of locally made furniture, home accessories, artwork, and finely woven items.  This store evokes the feeling of a comfortable well styled home.  Upstairs weavers are hard at work among spools of colorful natural fibers.

Nantucket Looms was founded in 1968 and has remained a favorite destination by many, including all first ladies since Jackie O.   If you plan to visit Nantucket this summer I suggest visiting Nantucket Looms, but beware it will be hard to leave without something in hand.  If you can not make it to the island check out Nantucket Loom's website and well written blog, Warp and Weft Blog featuring a series of articles about the island and local craftsmen. http://nantucketlooms.com/

SHIP SHAPE: CRU

One of my favorite places for nautical interior inspiration and excellent seafood is Cru.  Designed by Gauthier-Stacy, a Boston based firm, this restaurant sits on Nantucket harbor, making it a great spot for a dark and stormy and a couple oysters. The interior has the feel of an updated ship. Rustic boards are juxtaposed with sparkling nickel and glass. Crisp white sails drape from the rafters creating a billowing affect. One of my favorite features of the interior is the lighting. Included are glass ball chandeliers, drift wood and crystal chandeliers, and simple sconces with delicate paper shades. Outside you will find whimsical wood wing chairs and characterful yellow side tables. Views span out across Nantucket Harbor, and the array of seafood and drinks only make it better. If you are visiting Nantucket, I highly suggest a trip to Cru located at 1 Straight Warf Nantucket, MA. SHIP SHAPE: NANTUCKET REDS 70TH!

I recently discovered that Murray's Toggery Shop is celebrating it's 70th Anniversary.  This also means that the well known "Nantucket Reds" are also celebrating seventy years.  Anyone who has ever visited Nantucket knows about this classic muted red collection.  Murray's Toggery Shop has remained in the Murray family since 1945.  Their business has grown to accommodate men's, women's, and children's clothing, as well as their own traditional sportswear collection.  The store has remained popular on and off island.  If you are visiting Nantucket this weekend I suggest visiting Murray's Toggery Shop located at 62 Main Street Nantucket, MA.

SHIP SHAPE

I think of Memorial Day as the kick off to Summer.  Patriotic parades, cook outs, warmer days, and time by the water are what come to mind on this holiday.  This weekend also marks one of the east coast's largest sailing events, Figawi.  Many flock to the Cape and Nantucket to watch boats race from Hyannis Port Jetty to the entrance of Nantucket Harbor.  The entire weekend is filled with parades, celebrations, and races.  In honor of Memorial Day weekend and the 44th Annual Figawi Race, I have decided to share some "ship shape and bristol fashion" inspiration.
